Sweet Potato Fries

Reader Submission for the Pinstrosiversary Challenge:

Fat-Free Sweet Potato Fries

My family doesn’t cook very often, so I choose fairly basic recipes to get used to the idea. Having never cooked a sweet potato that didn’t come out of a can, so I thought this would be a good introduction. I’m a broke grad student, so instead of using all the spices listed, I used Old Bay. It goes with everything and is much easier than buying four spice jars at $5 each. I had a nonstick pan, so I skipped the cooking spray and crossed my fingers. I only made one sweet potato, as I was alone and didn’t want to throw out a lot of food if something went terribly wrong.

Halfway through I stop to turn them over, and they smell amazing. I take them out and taste – success! I added a little more Old Bay on top and enjoyed my fries. When I do this again, I will try to cut them more evenly as the thicker fries could have been cooked a little longer. I may also experiment with toppings – these could be good with brown sugar, other spices, or plain salt. This recipe is an all-around win: cheap, healthy and easy!
